A big ramen bowl of spring updates
Happy to send our quarterly email. Spring has been busy, and there are a few big updates I wanted to send in one bowl: our next meetup, where events live now that we’re off Meetup.com, a charity ramen challenge worth supporting, and a new story on Menkoi Sao.
|
Quarterly slurp check-in: new bowls, new events, and a lot more community photos.
|
What’s In The Bowl
- Ramen NYC meetup at Karazishi Botan on Sunday, April 12.
- We’re no longer using Meetup.com and are now hosting events ourselves.
- The Mark Shaparin Foundation Ramen Challenge is live through June 30.
- New blog post: Menkoi Sao reopens under owner Saori.

📸 Community Milestone — 206 Photos and Counting
We now have 206 approved community photos live on Ramen NYC across 32 ramen shops.
That puts photo coverage at about 27% of the directory already, and it keeps growing bowl by bowl.

📍 Next Meetup — Karazishi Botan on Sunday, April 12
We’re heading to Karazishi Botan in Brooklyn for a relaxed ramen night with good bowls and good conversation. Group size is limited, and everyone covers their own food and drinks.
Date: Sun, Apr 12, 2026
Time: 7:00pm
Location:
Karazishi Botan, 255 Smith St, Brooklyn, NY 11231
RSVP now happens in the app, but the meetup page has the details and directions.

🧭 We’re Hosting Events Ourselves Now
Quick heads-up: we’re no longer on Meetup.com. It helped us get started, but the cost got a little too high, so we’re now self-hosting events through Ramen NYC.
Going forward, meetup pages, event updates, and RSVP flow will live on our site and in the app.

❤️ Charity Highlight — Mark Shaparin Foundation Ramen Challenge
We also want to highlight the Mark Shaparin Foundation Ramen Challenge, an online campaign raising awareness about epilepsy and SUDEP.
The challenge runs from March 22, 2026 through June 30, 2026. Eat ramen or donate, post your video, tag @markshaparinfdn, and use #SlurpforSeizureSafety.

📝 New Blog Post — Menkoi Sao Reopens Under Saori
One of the most talked-about reopenings in NYC ramen is back. Menkoi Sato is now Menkoi Sao, and we spoke with Saori about taking over the shop, what stayed the same, and what’s new on the menu.
If you’ve been wondering what changed and whether your old favorite bowl still hits, this one is for you.

✍️ Write for Ramen NYC or Become an Ambassador
We’re still looking for writers, contributors, and ambassadors who want to help document NYC’s ramen scene.
If you want to write spotlights, cover events, share reviews, or help fill in the map with photos, we’d love to have you involved.

Thanks for reading and for helping grow this little ramen community. If there’s a spot, story, or event you think we should cover next, hit reply and send it over.
